Ölgemälde No. 5 Printable Poster by Meta Coleman
For this series, stylist Meta Coleman mined her family's incredible collection of antique paintings. ("Ölgemälde" means oil painting in German.) This particular one features a waterfall in a rugged mountain setting.
Ölgemälde Series Artist Statement:
As early as I can remember I have always been surrounded by art. Even as a young child my mother took me to every art museum that was local to us as well as when we visited her home in Germany. My grandfather was a POW survivor in both World Wars. In prison he carved the most beautiful frames and containers with a nail and his small tin food rations. Many years after World War II he began to collect paintings from 19th century German painters. He wanted to surround himself with beauty. I have always been fascinated with his optimism and love of art in some of the most difficult of circumstances. Although I never got to meet my grandfather, his collection and legacy has stayed with our family. This collection that I have curated for you are pieces that are beautiful, inspiring and meaningful to me. Possibly you will feel connected to them as I do. I hope you enjoy. - Meta Coleman
